Stylish Workspace

Posted by on

The holidays are drawing to an end, and with heavy jet lagged heads and copious amounts of caffeine, we stagger back to our routines. As many of you know, it is impossible to switch from vacation mode to work mode immediately. Instead don’t think of it as an on/off switch but more like a dimmer, a dial that eases you back into reality.

My easy transition trick; a face-lift. Don’t fret! I am not suggesting surgery. I am certain you are all fresh faced and beaming with that post vacation glow. Instead, give your workspace a little TLC and trust me it will make a world of difference.

Here are a few of my favorite tips for creating an inviting workspace:

Tidy up:

I’ve just started reading Marie Kondo’s book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, and it puts our tendency to glorify clutter into perspective. The central point of the book is to only keep what you would use on a daily basis, and make sure these items “spark joy” into your life. So carve out some time to rifle through not just all the paperwork lying around, but the loose wires and charges, and office accessories and only keep what is useful and sparks joy. ( clipboard, spiral jar, starburst, tray, collator, quips and queries set, phone dock)

Fancy Filling and stylish systems:

Create a pretty filing system that reduces clutter and anxiety. If you’re still reliant on paper files, use binders and create a filing system in a filing cabinet, or a designated drawer. All you need to do is find a filling system and stick to it. I personally love color-coded files, its wonderfully efficient and the bursts of color can add such joy.

To keep your systems in place make sure to establish an ongoing routine. As soon as you come to contact with a file or a piece of paper, decide what to do with it, such as shred it, toss it, file it, or trash it.

Pretty stationery

Obviously. There are a few things more encouraging than a pretty notebook, open to a blank page, ready for plans and scribbles. They are as decorative as they are practical. I love using desk pads as mouse pads, they are perfectly accessible for phone doodling. (pen, journal, brass rulernote set, dots notepad, large dots notepad, weekly disked, large desk pad)

Add personality

The quickest and easiest way to do this is with framed prints. Something that takes a little more effort but adds lovely personality is an inspiration board. I’ve been currently working on collecting ideas for my own. All it holds now is my alma matter’s badge, but I have high hopes for it and I’m excited to see how it turns out.
